Visual History:
Jill Platner
Jill Platner is a sculptor and jewelry designer with an eponymous line of bold, nature-inspired pieces that are sold primarily at her flagship store on Crosby Street in New York City, but also at Barneys and high-end boutiques on both coasts. Platner's elegant, sculptural jewelry, collected by the likes of Orlando Bloom and Cindy Sherman, echoes the organic forms she finds on her travels and surfing trips around the world.
Platner in Maine
Spending summers in Maine as a child, Platner developed a keen appreciation for the elements of nature she was surrounded by, both grand and small. Platner's longtime reverence for all things natural is evident in her sculpture and jewelry.
"Falcons in Flight," 1999
Platner created this large-scale steel sculpture, shown here in Maine, in 1999. Standing over 15 feet tall, "Falcons in Flight" currently hangs in Platner's flagship store in Soho.
Creating "Spray," 2011
Platner in action, creating the copper and bronze sculpture "Spray" in 2011. Beneath Platner's flagship Soho location is a private workshop where she creates all her large-scale sculptures by hand.
Platner in Her Studio
Platner pictured in her studio, which she affectionately calls her "crib." Her studio is where she sketches, designs and creates all of her signature jewelry. Platner has two separate work spaces—one is reserved exclusively for working with gold, the other for working with silver.
Platner's Silver Workstation
A detailed shot of the silver workstation within Platner's studio. Though Platner works with both gold and silver, she is perhaps most known for her sumptuous pieces made of sterling silver.
