Visual History:
Jill Roy
Jill Roy is the founder of Something Wicked, a line of handcrafted candles of the highest quality. Something Wicked candles are made from soy wax, organic hemp, and the finest essential oils and natural fragrances. Roy, who also started a photo production company, 3Star Productions, began making candles as a hobby over a decade ago. Only a few years later, Roy's candles, which come in subtle, delicious, idiosyncratic scents like Pomegranate Mint, were carried in a range of exclusive boutiques, from Calypso in SoHo to Tauk in Montauk. After a five-year hiatus from candle making, Roy is relaunching Something Wicked with an exclusive custom candle for Whisper Editions.

Mark Rothko Monographs
"These are two of my favorite Rothko books," says Roy, whose first candles were inspired by Rothko's work. "There is something in the colors he chooses that is pure emotion. They make me very happy."
One of Roy's First Candles, 1998
This is one of the first candles Roy ever made, about 15 years ago. "I was really into layering and texture at the time," Roy says, "and was very much obsessed with Mark Rothko."
Roy and Her Children, 2010
"It all started with these three beautiful and very cool kids of mine," Roy says. "They are my love and continuing inspiration. Everything I do in life, I always have them in mind."
Roy on Set, 2012
As if making candles weren't enough, Roy decided to start a photo production company, called 3Star Productions. "I have been so blessed to work with some of the most amazing photographers and clients in the business," Roy says, "and of course always burning a Something Wicked candle on set when I can."
