Stefan Ruiz

Stefan Ruiz studied painting and sculpture at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and the Accademia di Belle Arti, Venice, before turning to photography. His work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, L'Uomo Vogue, and Rolling Stone, among other publications. Ruiz taught art at San Quentin State Prison and was the creative director for Colors magazine from 2003 to 2004. He now lives in Brooklyn but regularly travels the world on assignment.

When Ruiz's parents divorced, the family moved to Italy. There, Ruiz says, "I came to appreciate Italian art."

Ruiz later returned to Italy and art directed the magazine "Colors."

The Factory of Dreams, 2012

In 2012, Aperture published Ruiz's book on the Mexican soap opera industry, "The Factory of Dreams."
