Stefan Ruiz
Stefan Ruiz studied painting and sculpture at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and the Accademia di Belle Arti, Venice, before turning to photography. His work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, L'Uomo Vogue, and Rolling Stone, among other publications. Ruiz taught art at San Quentin State Prison and was the creative director for Colors magazine from 2003 to 2004. He now lives in Brooklyn but regularly travels the world on assignment.

Ruiz's mom used to get him Charlie Chaplin films from the library when he was a kid.

Ruiz grew up looking at these books.

When Ruiz's parents divorced, the family moved to Italy. There, Ruiz says, "I came to appreciate Italian art."
