Taken in Ilulissat on the west coast of Greenland in 2012 under the rays of the midnight sun, Jonathan Pozniak’s Photoshop-free photograph of this ephemeral iceberg captures the fleeting beauty of our constantly changing earth. Pozniak traveled by fishing boat, cutting the engines at just the right moment to soak in the silence, cut only by the sounds of cracking ice thundering in the distance. This edition is the photographer’s favorite work. “Born from water, ice that in many cases is thousands of years old is preserved in its prime in one image,” says Pozniak, “And soon after is melted and gone, returning to the sea,” — except for its immortalization here.
